Republican Yankee ad buy for Ohio candidate who sings about military service

A Republican candidate for a northwest Ohio congressional seat has seen his support vanish overnight, following an investigation that revealed he had lied about deploying to Afghanistan after the 9/11 terror attacks. .

The Republican National Congressional Committee on Thursday withdrew nearly $1 million in ad reservations, originally set aside to boost JR Majewski, a Trump-backed QAnon supporter who attended the Jan. 6 insurrection and has encouraged Republican states to separate from the union.

Sources familiar with the committee he told the politician they had bought $960,000 worth of ads in the Toledo, Ohio market, believing Majewski could win the district. They returned that purchase on Thursday.

In campaign appearances, Majewski portrayed himself as an Air Force combat veteran who endured “harsh” conditions in Afghanistan, where he says he spent weeks without access to running water.

And a biography published by the House Republican campaign committee attests that Majewski’s “squad was one of the first to act in Afghanistan after 9/11.”

But documents released Wednesday by the Associated Press show he was never in Afghanistan during his time in the Air Force.

Instead, the closest Majewski came to the country was a six-month stint in Qatar, where he helped load planes. Most of his active duty was spent at Kadena Air Base, Japan.

Ohio’s 9th congressional district is currently represented by Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur. Despite her status as the longest-serving woman in the history of the US House of Representatives, redistricting shifted the district to the right, putting her re-election at risk.
